Players from Indiana Institute of Technology and Madonna University lead the way on the 2008 edition of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Volleyball Honors. Check out members of the All-Conference, Honorable Mention All-Conference, All-Freshman, All-Academic and Champions of Character Teams as well as coaching honors.

Madonna outside hitter Lubovj Tihomirova was named first team All-Conference and conference Player of the Year for her efforts in leading the Crusaders to a share of the conference crown. The senior ranked in the top five of the conference in hitting percentage (.300), kills per game (3.9), service aces (45) and blocks (127).

Joining Tihomirova on the first team and with individual honors is WHAC Setter of the Year Katie VanderMeer from Aquinas College. The sophomore setter averaged 8.9 assists and 2.5 digs per game while serving up 54 aces for the Saints.

Davenport University defensive specialist Courtney DePriest was named the WHAC Libero of the Year. The freshman, also an honorable mention for the All-Conference award, averaged 4.0 digs per game. She added 25 assists and 32 service aces during the year.

Freshman phenom Ashley Hamilton of Indiana Tech had a good enough year to not only be named the WHAC Freshman of the Year, but was also the only first-year player named First Team All-Conference.  As an outside hitter, Hamilton helped Tech to a share of the conference title by hitting .316 while averaging 3.2 kills per game. She also had 12 assists and 35 serving aces.

Rounding out the All-Conference team is Whitney Fuelling, Inta Grinvalds, Mary McGinnis of Madonna; Ashtyn Humerickhouse, Laura Booker, Erika Stouder of Indiana Tech; Holly Cousins of Cornerstone University; Kayla Vandermolen of Davenport University; and Jessica Curtis of Aquinas.

Indiana Tech head coach Kirsta Solberg grabbed WHAC Coach of the Year honors for her leadership of the Warriors. In just her second season at the helm, Solberg guided Tech to the championship game of the WHAC tournament and a Top 20 national ranking. Aquinas head coach Dave Rawles was honored as the Champions of Character Coach for the conference.

Other honors awarded were Honorable Mention All-Conference, All-Freshman Team All-Academic for juniors and seniors in academic standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and Champions of Character Team with members demonstrating the five core character values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.
